A esperança equilibrista sabe que o memorial da anistia política do Brasil deve continuar: desafios na consolidação de um espaço vivo

Abstract

The present research has taken as object the Brazilian Political Amnesty Memorial, an institution that began to be erected in the city of Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, during 2009 to 2016. One of the main objectives of the Memorial is to safeguard the Amnesty Commission's acquis, to improve democracy through public policies and a culture of human rights. From the documents that compose the virtual collection of the memorial, we analyze the political transformations that took place. The starting point of this research was to understand the end of the military dictatorship in Brazil until redemocratization, with the Amnesty Law of 1979 as the beginning of transitional justice and the 2000s as the beginning of memory and reparation policies withing the government to the victims of the military dictatorship. In addition to the political process, we observe how places of memory are important in building a memory of the military dictatorship and how patrimonialization guarantees political experience. In this way, we seek to analyze the primary sources on the Amnesty Memorial to understand the importance of state policies focused on memory and reparation on the transitional justice
