A experiência do Jardim Batan: regime de incerteza no pós-pacificação

Abstract

The present ethnography sought to review the social history of the Jardim Batan ‘favela’, west of Rio de Janeiro, to understand the social change and territorial ordering over time and a new form of government for the poor structured after the end of the pacification, the regime of uncertainty. I seek to capture the approaches and distances of the different governments, their power devices, their assemblages and the forms of subjection and subjectivation from the experience of certain residents. The closure of the Batan Pacifying Police Unit (UPP) in Batan inaugurated a context of profound changes in the daily life of the ‘comunidade’, where the return of territorial control of trafficking, the war between rival factions, the possibility of the return of the militia and the insecurity caused by the increase the theft, conditioned the impossibility of reproducing the previous way of life and a feeling of generalized uncertainty. In this sense, the objective of this research is to show the creative ways to live and survive in these adversities and the real possibilities of resistance.
