Ocupações das escolas no Brasil: um estudo das preferências políticas e da forma de ação.

Abstract

This dissertation has as its main subject theme the occupation of educational institutions in Brazil during the years 2015 and 2016, in which I investigate the relationship between the forms of action and the values shared by the students during the occupation process. This research is located in the field of studies on political culture with emphasis on Ronald Inglehart’s writings on New Political Culture. From this author, I have resorted to three lines of reasoning that guide all reflection. The first is the concept of "self-expression values", which according to the author is the basis for political transformations in the direction of democracy. The second is the importance of forms of collective actions that, when informed by values of self-expression, press the political elites for changes in the direction of democracy. The third is the socioeconomic factor that, according to the author, favors the rise of self-expression values. Therefore, my goal in this dissertation is to verify whether the values that mobilized the students are self-expression values. The methodology used is the bibliographical and research survey based on an interview questionnaire. The formulation of questions and response alternatives were designed with the objective of verifying whether students ' preferences can be depicted as self-expression values. The results indicate that, among the interviewees, there is a strong correlation between the values and the forms of action adopted in the occupation process and that the values identified are associated with the values of self-expression. Therefore, it is postulated that the phenomenon of occupations of schools point to a new type of civic participation, critical of traditional models of mobilization and favorable to more spontaneous models of direct action, with a more individualized profile and focusing on themes aimed at quality of life.
