Conservatória: a construção das serenatas como patrimônio cultural

Abstract

Serestas and serenatas are musical manifestations that occur throughout the country, but has significant meaning in the district of Conservatoria, in the mountain region of Rio de Janeiro. This dissertation aims to present an analytical approach to the construction of these manifestations, organized by the Conservatoria’s seresteiros movement, which generates symbolism, myths and disputes. The construction of the serenatas as heritage began in the 1950s, with the work of some seresteiros who began to standardize and systematize the activities of serestas and seresteiros, in a joint elaboration with the symbolic appropriation of elements of nature, historical and material, consolidating these manifestations.In addition to the observation of the serenatas ritual, focus of this dissertation, other musical practices in the district were analyzed. These, which emerged after the seresteiro movement, also appear as attractions of local tourism, based on the evocation of memories and nostalgia. It is thus detected, a musical tourist environment formed by various symbolic and musical hues. Ethnographically, the narratives of the agents of the manifestations were of great importance, enabling the understanding of the emotionalities generated, the performances performed, their representations, their meanings and the memories produced in the conservatoriano context.
